As parents, we take seriously the job of raising our kids. There are so many things you can do—and probably already do—to reduce the chances of one of your kids considering suicide. The best defence against suicide begins from day one, with a strong foundation at home so that you can set your children up for the best possible life.
In a six-month period in Auckland all the young people who died by suicide did not have a regular meal with their family. Strong families reduce (not eliminate) the chances of a young person taking their lives.
Even if someone does come from a great home, things can still go wrong. Throughout these modules, we will clearly show you what are some of the warning signs that your child may have depression, anxiety, PTSD or may be considering suicide. We will teach you exactly how to approach them and where to find help.
It is every parent’s nightmare to think that their child could be suicidal. However, with the right help and support, the chances of your child dying by suicide can be dramatically reduced.
